Osho once said something like “Love is the only mystery there is.” I agree we don’t know where it comes from, why it’s there or really what it is.
We won’t unravel that mystery here, but today I am wondering what I mean when I say “I love you” to someone. Is it an simple expression of the way I feel about that person, that I care about them and enjoy being with them? Or does it go deeper? Could it be an expression of a certain state of being?
I just found this quote from David Hawkins that captures part of how I experience what I label “love.”
“Love is misunderstood to be an emotion; actually it is a state of awareness, a way of being the world, a way of seeing oneself and others.” — from ‘The Eye of the I’
Part of it is a heightened state of awareness and the other part is feeling really good. For me there’s really not one without the other. So when I tell someone I love them, I share both positive feelings and higher consciousness with them. Simply put, a very enjoyable and very healthy thing to do.

The love you describe is affection, but what of…
‘That lovin’ feelin’, the exquisite rush of butterflies through your heart and soul? That is a love that is imprinted, we hope mutually. That is a love that is driven by a template born in your genes and only answered by the passing soul who would seize it as a dawn might seize your heart. It lasts a lifetime. Pity so many of us are so quick we choose a simple business arrangement.
