Recipe: Mark’s Super Cleansing Lemonade

Until my late 20s I chronic difficulties with mucus. I was often clearing my throat, had strong allergies to dust and certain weeds, easily caught colds and regularly had a runny nose.

This situation improved a lot shortly after I started eating a diet based on 95% raw vegetarian foods. What I discovered from being on a raw food diet is that the body forms mucus to protect itself from toxins, including cooked foods. Basically the mucus functions as a buffer between toxin substances and our internal organs.

By eliminating cooked foods I found that my body no longer created much mucus and actually got rid of old mucus deposits it has stored. The result for me is that I rarely get sick, rarely have to clear my throat and have virtually no allergies (some specific weeds in Colorado where I grew up still bother me some).

These days, in addition to eating a high percentage of raw foods, I also enjoy a super cleansing lemonade, which has several health benefits in addition to dissolving mucus.

  • The combination of cayenne, ginger and lemon stimulates the bowel to movecleansing lemonade
  • The cayenne helps mucus deposits release from the intestinal walls
  • The lemon juice alkalizes the digestive system
  • The citrus pectin from the white part of the lemon is a liver tonic which supports the body’s ability to absorb fats

How To Make My Super Cleansing Detox Lemonade

Tools: Blender

Ingredients:

3 organic lemons or limes (peeled)
5 T of high quality oil (flax, hemp or coconut)
1 organic pear cored
1/2 t organic Celtic sea salt
1/2 t of cayenne pepper
1 inch ginger – peeled
Water to fill blender to about 3 inches from top
6 T raw agave, honey or maple syrup

Preparation:

Peel just the outer yellow skin off the lemons, peel the ginger, then place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth.

How To Take This Drink:

Drink this cleansing lemonade first thing in the morning, about 1/2 hour before breakfast. 3/4 to 1 cup is enough. Try it for at least one week.
